March 07, 2004......Tablerock Lake, MO.
After leading the tournament on day 3, Roland Martin added his 20th, 2nd
place career win. Fishing the Citgo-Bassmasters Tour event this past week,
under less than ideal weather, Roland found a pattern using a spinnerbait
and jig, that enabled him to not only finish 2nd, but he picked up the
heaviest stringer of the event while doing it and had big bass the last day
also. Florida's Roland Martin, who finished in the lead on Saturday, was
close behind Champion Mark Davis, with 59-7, but had nothing to complain
about considering the $38,000 second-place prize moved him into the BASS
Millionaire's Club, something he had been looking forward to for a long
time.
With 19 championship wins and 20, 2nd place wins, nearly 100 Top Ten finishes, it is easy to see why Martin has been pegged with the title of "The Legend". Along with the 2nd place finish, Roland crossed another milestone in his career by surpassing the BASS Million Dollar mark and joined the elite group of anglers who have obtained the status symbol. Ironically, the Tablerock event concluded exactly one week to the day before Roland's 64th birthday.
Roland, who's major sponsors include, Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Gary Yamamoto Baits, and Pure Fishing, said that along with proving he can still compete with a much younger field of competitors, he was most proud of being able to continue to work with his sponsors and promote their products to the American fishing public.
